In english : This painting is inspired from a visite to Rome. The statue represents a roman goddess, certainly Venus, i.e. Aphrodite. It has been build up with different layers of paint, collage, varnish and aquarelle crayons. I added some gold leaf for enhancing the rich textures and her spiritual qualities. The french stamp in the right bottom corner is a figure of Marianne, the symbol of the Republic. This links the modern and old ages together.
